Speech--a place where talking to walls is normal, and taking home a poster is almost more exciting than a medal.
On Saturday, Jan. 21, the EHS Speech Team hosted 18 high schools at their annual winter tournament. The team spent Friday evening preparing for the tournament, and the hallways came to life as Mario-themed decorations took stage.
“We had our work set out for us, if we wanted to host an impressive tournament,” said junior Emmanual Blakes, “but it was pretty cool to spend extra time with the team and laughing along as we created sound effects and pretended to be Mario walking through the halls.”
In the heat of regional preparation, the stakes were high, but the team’s confidence was higher. Placing 6th out of 18 teams proved that size does not determine success. This put the Eureka Speech performers right on track to a successful post-season.
“I love seeing how much support each student gives to each other and how they hold each other to high standards,” commented Coach Jackie Zeman.
With two more tournaments underway, the team is buckling down to make sure their hard work does not go unnoticed. Junior Co-Captain, Kate McCabe has been thoroughly impressed with the talent she has seen.
“We’ve already accomplished so much, and I look forward to seeing what else we can do!”
