Before the game began, many Eureka-Roanoke-Benson JV soccer players and spectators were expecting an IVC victory. The JV had just watched the varsity lose and were expecting a similar result for themselves. E-R/B was apprehensive of IVC’s speed and ball handling skills. For the first 19 minutes, defenders from both teams kept the game scoreless. Jake Weber scored at the 20 minute mark, pulling E-R/B ahead and proving to the team that IVC was beatable. After Weber’s goal, defenders continued to dominate, and E-R/B went into the half ahead by one.

E-R/B went into the second half ahead and decidedly more confident. On a breakaway, Jake Weber scored his second goal of the game. E-R/B scored two more goals when crosses from sophomores Matt Bachman and Emmanual Blakes bounced off of IVC’s keeper and into the net. Blakes said, “I was shocked actually.” Blakes was not the only one shocked by the game’s result; the victory was a happy surprise.
